What Is Static vs. Dynamic

In the early days of websites, there were only static websites. You made a website, none of the pages would change much after the designer built the website, and there was no interaction with visitors. It primarily served to give out information, not receive it. This is fine for a small two or three page website whose information will probably not change in a few years, and a company that does not want to get any information from it's visitors.

The newer trend in websites, however, is dynamic. Pages change often. Customers are encouraged to interact with the website. New information is being supplied constantly. There could be a blog or online store. CMS is usually involved, allowing the website owner to make his own changes, or at least his own minor changes. The visitor can fill out forms, buy products, ask questions, vote, comment, upload pictures, chat with other members, and generally interact with the website or other visitors of the website.

This act of interaction in itself increases visitor on-site time and frequency of visits. It helps spread the word to others to come join the action at this website, therefore increasing traffic. It is more alive!
